Dallas Florist Says Mother’s Day Business Blooming – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth
Mother’s Day is a big business day for many florists, but for a Dallas florist, Mother’s Day has a deeper meaning.
People can make all kinds of bouquets at A Flower Matters in Pleasant Grove. And while this year is busy, it wasn’t a year ago.
“Last year was pretty tough because the pandemic had just started and there were no flowers, there was a shortage of flowers everywhere,” said owner Maria Diaz.
She said the shop on 9911 Lake June Road had started to bloom again after a few months, and that Mother’s Day had turned out to be better than last.
“Yes, it’s a very busy day for us,” said Diaz. “You don’t have to give them a message, you don’t have to give them money, you can give a flower to a certain person for me, and that says it all.”
Creating beautiful bouquets of flowers is a craft she picked up from her own mother.
“She worked with us all the time, every vacation. I mean, I learned that thanks to my mom, so it’s pretty difficult,” said Diaz.
Her mother Eduarda Diaz Garcia died last November at the age of 68.
“This is my first year without my mother being her,” said Diaz, tearing himself open.
She was unable to attend her mother’s funeral in Mexico because she was sick with COVID-19 at the time.
“There are days when you have a great day and there are days when you want to break down knowing she is not with you but it gets better,” said Diaz.
As she ponders that first Mother’s Day without her own mother, she reminds others to cherish every moment with their mother.
“I want everyone to have a blessed and safe Mother’s Day and stay safe,” said Diaz.
