Dallas-Fort Worth in for a wet weekend, with thunderstorms possible
The weekend won’t be a complete washout, but North Texas will experience some showers and storms throughout the weekend.
According to Rick Mitchell, a meteorologist for KXAS-TV (NBC5), the greatest chance for showers and storms is on Saturday afternoon.
“I think we’ll have more dry hours than wet hours,” said Mitchell.
Strong thunderstorms are possible in parts of north Texas, but widespread severe weather is not expected, said National Weather Service meteorologist Lamont Bain.
“I wouldn’t rule out a minor storm or two, mostly east of I-35,” Bain said.
Sunday afternoon brings a better chance for storms, said weather service meteorologist Bianca Garcia, although widespread severe weather is not expected. As severe thunderstorms develop, hail and noxious winds will be the top threats, Garcia said.
The likelihood of severe storms on Sunday is greatest south and east of the Dallas-Fort Worth area, Mitchell said.
The showers could last until Monday, after which the weather would dry up for a few days, he said.
