Dave’s Hot Chicken from L.A. brings it Nashville-style to Fort Worth

Fort Worth is in line for Nashville Hot Chicken from a Los Angeles-based chain: Dave’s hot chicken, which started as a street food sensation before turning into a fast-casual chain, will open a location in southwest Fort Worth at 820 and on Bryant Irvin Road.

The address is 4608 Bryant Irvin Rd. # 430, in the Cityview Shopping Center, near Spec’s and Razzoo’s Cafe.

This is Dave’s second location announced for Dallas-Fort Worth after the first in Dallas to open in a former Boston market at 14750 Preston Rd. That should be opened in the spring. Dave’s is about to explode in DFW: there are three franchise groups involved, one focusing on Dallas, one focusing on Collin County, and one focusing on Fort Worth. At least a dozen locations are to be built over the next two years.

According to a spokesman for the mall, Dave’s will take over a former Schlotsky’s that was in the location for more than 20 years but was closed during the pandemic. The space recently changed hands and renovations have only just begun, but the restaurant is expected to open in early summer.

Dave’s specializes in hot chicken tenders and slides, as well as side dishes such as kale salad, mac & cheese, crispy fries, and cheese fries.

The concept was founded in 2017 by classically trained chef Dave Kopushyan and three friends – the beginnings of the Nashville hot chicken trend – who first made a parking lot popup. The concept was implemented immediately and has since expanded to several stationary locations in Southern California.

In 2019, the founders teamed up with restaurant veteran Bill Phelps, the former co-founder and CEO of Wetzel’s Pretzels and partner of Blaze Pizza. Since then, they’ve had their sights set on growth in the U.S. and have numerous Daves in the works.
