His staff say it is not uncommon for Hamilton to finish a shift as a supervisor only to hop on an ambulance and take extra shifts to fill the void his sick employees have left.

Hamilton’s own boss also sang his praises.

In the past 10+ years, he has not missed a work day, nor has he ever been late for work. He does extra shifts to support the system, he looks after his team, he has more than 30 employees, ”said Heath Stone.

“I love my job and what they say. Do something you love and you never have to work a day in your life, ”said Hamilton. “This is my job here at MedStar.”

His family says that it is his accomplishments at home that make him their hero.

In the midst of a pandemic and almost non-stop work at MedStar, he managed to get his elderly parents to a house across from him.

Then he gradually rebuilt the whole house.

Then there is an ongoing commitment to his wife, Monica, and their own grandchildren, whom she and John are officially adopting as their own.

“There was never a no or a talk about it. It was okay, let’s pick her up, ”said Monica.

“What I wanted to bring there was a more cohesive family,” said John. “You’re not going anywhere. They are our children. “

John Hamilton is a CBS 11 Super One for all of his frontline work and dedication to his family and children back home.

A recognition that will certainly make him blush.

“I’m sure there are people who earn more than I do. It’s a great honor. I’m pretty humble about it, ”he said.
