Fort Worth Zoo Reveals New Giraffe Calf is a Boy – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

Just in time for Mother’s Day, the Fort Worth Zoo welcomed a new baby giraffe.

The male calf – the sex of which was announced on Wednesday – was born May 8 to mother Kala’s daughter and is her seventh calf, the zoo said.

What do you think is our newest giraffe calf? Boy or girl? Pay attention to the gender reveal! Unfortunately we have to dry out a bit here before you can meet the little calf. Until then, we’re going to think about a name – and so should you. We’ll be releasing details about the naming contest soon! pic.twitter.com/xOzZ3jwAtW

The wobbly 6-foot baby weighed 174 pounds at birth and spent time bonding with his mother in the barn.

The giraffe’s habitat has to dry out before the little calf can meet its new fans, according to the zoo.

A naming competition is in progress for the new calf, the details of which will be published shortly.
