Fort Worth’s elegant Cafe Modern is back with new menu and celeb chef
One of Fort Worth’s most elegant food treasures is making a comeback with a little celebrity ka-pow: Café ModernThe prestigious restaurant in the Fort Worth Museum of Modern Art will reopen on May 18th under new management with a new menu and a famous new chef.
The restaurant changed hands in January when it was acquired by Wolfgang Puck Catering, a national company that manages restaurants in facilities and museums in the United States. In Dallas-Fort Worth, the company already oversees programs at the AT&T Performing Arts Center in the Nasher Sculpture Center, Perot Museum, Theaters in Grand Prairie and Union Station in downtown Dallas.
But Café Modern has made a big name for itself in Jett Mora, a veteran of Wolfgang Puck Catering who is actually moving to Fort Worth to run the culinary team at Modern, which is a big deal.
Mora is from Los Angeles and started working for Wolfgang Puck Catering in the company’s flagship kitchen in Hollywood in 2011. She created menus for weddings, special occasions, corporate galas, and some of the country’s premier events including the Oscars Governors Ball. He also served as head chef at Puck’s West Hollywood restaurant, Red Seven, before cooking at Wolfgang’s Test Kitchen, a culinary incubator.
Café Modern, which has been closed since March 2020 due to the pandemic, was previously run by Bon Appetit. They separated in January.
The new menu offers home-style cooking with global influences and a drinks program featuring local spirits.
The highlights of the lunch menu include:
Sicilian melt with aubergine, portabella and fontina cheese on sourdough
Chicken paillard with warm local rainbow chard salad
Mahi Mahi with Bengali curry, snow peas and zucchini
Charred Kalbi beef bowl with chilli-garlic rice and pickled kimchi vegetables
The highlights of the brunch menu include:
