Macy’s debuts first ‘off-price’ Backstage store in Dallas-Fort Worth

Popular department store chain Macy’s is about to open a new type of store in Dallas-Fort Worth. Called Macy’s backstageIt is an “off-price” concept (also known as the discount concept) in which clothing, housewares, shoes, cosmetics and other goods are sold at discount prices.

The store is announced to open at The Village at Allen at 190 E. Stacy Rd. on Saturday May 29th.

The backstage concept was first introduced in 2017, but as a separate department embedded in existing stores. Backstage now operates in more than 200 Macy’s stores, including six in Dallas-Fort Worth. Having them in a Macy’s allows customers to shop for regular Macy’s and inexpensive Macy’s in one trip.

The 19,400-square-foot store in Allen represents the next generation in which the concept is a stand-alone store, much like a Marshall or Ross.

The Backstage store receives an ever-changing range of trendy goods at significant savings, encouraging customers to return to find new treasures. A wide range of new and renowned brands include apparel for men, women and children, as well as toys, housewares, home office, home textiles and décor, cosmetics, hair and nail care, personal protective equipment (PPE), pet accessories and kids’ shoes, designer handbags and active clothing .

Branded clothing is mixed on the shelves, though much of the merchandise is said to be from Macy’s private labels like Charter Club and INC International Concepts, with some items from earlier seasons.

The store also has an elevated open area where all the goods on the floor are easily accessible. None of the nooks and crannies you would find in a normal Macy’s.

Macy’s Backstage customers can pay their bills or pick up orders at the in-store service desk. This is a dedicated location for seamless pickup and drop-off from Macy’s stores. Buyers can earn and redeem Star Rewards and use a Macy’s credit card at Backstage locations. Buyers are also allowed to share their looks with #macysbackstage and the @macysbackstage tag.

Macy’s has improved health and safety standards, including additional cleaning during opening hours, hygiene stations in all stores, company-issued protective clothing for business colleagues, and occupancy controls with a focus on traffic flow to anticipate and mitigate crowds.

They also employ more than 15 full-time and part-time colleagues at

Michael Hersh, vice president of off-price at Macy, says the business drives Macy’s commitment to retail innovation with an emphasis on the Dallas-Fort Worth customer.

“We are very excited to expand our off-price concept outside the mall with the opening of the first freestanding Macy’s Backstage store in The Village at Allen, built on an ecosystem that gives our customers additional access and convenience to the abundance of the brand Macy’s offers, “says Hersh. “Our backstage customers can express their personal style through our rotating assortment of trendy goods at great value for money in a wide range of categories from home decor to the latest fashions.”

In January, Macy’s debuted its second store through Macy’s off-mall location in the Dallas-Fort Worth area at the WestBend lifestyle mall. Market by Macy’s is a smaller retail store covering approximately 20,000 square feet that offers a selection of the best Macy’s branded fashions in an easy to buy and open environment.

Another freestanding Macy’s Backstage store is slated to open in the Dallas-Fort Worth community this fall.
