Mercedes Has 4 Hits, White Sox Beat Rangers 9-7 – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

Rookie sensation Yermin Mercedes added four more goals to his scorching start, including a double in the seventh inning, and the Chicago White Sox defeated the Texas Rangers 9-7 on Friday night despite leading five times.

Yoan Moncada had three hits and a home run. Liam Hendriks took the last five outs and the White Sox (10-9) moved above 0.500 for the first time this season. They won for the fourth time in five games, despite the fact that Texas’s Adolis Garcia hit two other homers.

Chicago rolled a 5-0 lead after chasing Dane Dunning in a third run of five, but the game quickly turned.

Luis Robert led seventh place against Kyle Cody (0-2), and Mercedes later broke off a 6-all draw when they awarded a double-to-center field. He rose to Andrew Vaughn’s single and met Nick Madrigal’s sharp groundout to make it 8-6.

Mercedes increased its batting average to 0.429. Moncada added a solo homer in the eighth.

Codi Heuer (2-1) worked 1 1/3 innings for the win. Hendriks came out with an eighth and runners in first and second place and knocked out Willie Calhoun and Isiah Kiner-Falefa to end that threat. The closer gave up a solo trip to Garcia in ninth place before saving Nick Solak for the fourth time in five chances.

Solak hit a homer in two runs against Dylan Cease in the fourth, and Garcia cut it to 6-5 in the fifth when he completed a triple drive to the center of Evan Marshall. The Cuban bat has five home runs in 10 games since being called up from the Rangers’ alternative training ground.

Cease gave up two runs and three hits in 3 1/3 innings.

Dunning was marked by his former team for five runs and eight hits in 2 2/3 innings. The right-hander, who was taken on in the off-season for Lance Lynn of Chicago, had only allowed one run of 15 innings in his first three starts.
