North Texas’ first drive-in air show takes flight in Fort Worth

The annual Bell Fort Worth Alliance Air Show is banking on the hottest entertainment trend of the year – the drive-in experience – for the 2020 edition. The 30th anniversary event will take place on October 17th and 18th at the Fort Worth Alliance Airport and is the first drive-in air show in North Texas.

According to a publication dated August 24th, each vehicle will be distributed at the show so that there is space for the vehicle and the adjacent room for guests to set up chairs and blankets. It is currently planned to offer around 2,000 parking tickets a day, which will be available from from mid-September, depending on availability. No parking tickets are sold on site.

“The circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic provided a unique opportunity to innovate to advance hosting the air show for the North Texas community,” Christina Carey, special projects director for Alliance Air Productions, said in a statement. “Our reformatted event will be an unforgettable, fun and socially distant drive-in experience as we celebrate 30 years of excellence.”

This year’s show will feature the US Air Force Thunderbirds, an A-10 demo, the US Navy Air Show Team F-35C, the All Veteran Parachute Team and the Bell 407 helicopter. However, the drive-in experience does not include static displays, exhibitors, inflatable boats for children, chargeable seating areas or chalets.

All guests must wear masks throughout the event. Anyone who has had COVID-19 symptoms or has been in close contact with someone who has these symptoms within 14 days of the air show is asked to stay home. There are sufficient toilets and hand washing stations on site. In addition, open fires, barbecues, pop-up tents, mobile homes, caravans and smoking are not permitted.

“Alliance Air Productions will continue to monitor updates that are relevant to our region as they become available,” said Carey. “If local, state, federal, military or FAA agencies determine that we are unable to host an air show for 2020 due to COVID-19-related matters, advance ticket sales will be refunded.”

The Bell Fort Worth Alliance Air Show is one of the largest and longest running civil air shows in the country. It took first place among the “Best Air Shows” of the USA Today 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards 2020.
