Performing Arts Fort Worth cancels last 2 Broadway shows for 2021
Performing Arts Fort Worth, the hosts of Broadway at the Bass, has canceled the remaining two shows in the 2020-21 season.
Jesus Christ Superstar (last scheduled for July 27th to August 1st, 2021) and Rodgers & Hammersteins Oklahoma! (10-15 August 2021) will hopefully be booked in the upcoming 2021-22 season, which will be announced in early May.
COVID-19 is of course the reason for the cancellation.
“While we are sad to announce the last two cancellations of our Broadway 2020-2021 bass season, we look to the future with hope and optimism,” said Dione Kennedy, President and CEO of Performing Arts Fort Worth, im March 16 release.
“With positive news and daily advances in the vaccine field, our industry hopes to resume touring Broadway shows later this year.”
Next season’s lineup will include many of the tour productions previously planned prior to COVID-19, as well as – how’s that for a tease? – a newly added hit show straight from Broadway (which has been closed since March 2020).
The new season will also include Hamilton’s Fort Worth premiere engagement, which has been postponed to January 18 to February 6, 2022.
Performing Arts Fort Worth takes the reverse approach of Dallas Summer Musicals, which it often works with to put on a few shows in both cities each season.
DSM announced in January that it would have a full list of shows for 2021, starting as early as next August with a renewed engagement by Wicked.
