Pfizer Vaccine Rolled Out for Teens in Dallas County – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

Dallas County began giving Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine to young people ages 12 to 15 on Friday. Parents standing in line for the vaccine at Fair Park with their teenage boy said this was the day they had been waiting for.

“It was very important not only to me and my family, but also to theirs,” said Kimberly Irving.

Irving’s 15-year-old daughter Ava said she was ready to be vaccinated.

“I work outside of my home so it’s important to get my vaccine and make sure I’m safe and also for my family,” she said.

Daisy Ibarra’s younger brother Eliso was the only one in the family who was not vaccinated. So the first thing on Friday morning she took him to Fair Park to get his shot.

“I think everyone should be able to get the vaccine,” said Ibarra. “And I think it’ll be safer if everyone gets vaccinated.”

Teens at the Fair Park vaccination center said the main reason they wanted to get vaccinated was to get life back to normal as soon as possible.

“To finally have more social interactions with more than just my family,” said one teenager.

With the summer break just around the corner, teenagers are saying the timing couldn’t be better.

“There are a lot of things I wanted to do this summer and things I wanted to do last year I do this year because we were only at home last year, but now we can go to places where I have been vaccinated . ”

This is why Dallas County’s health officials say it’s important for teenagers to get the vaccine.

“It is great news for Dallas County, for the community, that we can now vaccinate children, so we urge all parents to bring their son or daughter here or to other vaccination sites in Dallas County,” said Christian Grisales, Dallas Co. Health and Personal Services.

The vaccine is available in a variety of locations across Dallas County, including Fair Park, Ellis Davis Fieldhouse, Dallas College Eastfield campus, and Parkland Hospital.

Children preparing for vaccination will need a parent or guardian to be with them during the process.
