Students Studying Floral Affairs Enjoy Holiday Rush – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth
Just because winter is coming doesn’t mean you can forget the loved one in your life.
Several Irving ISD students spent the week helping students and teachers with flower arrangements straight from the classroom.
At Nimitz High School in Irving, students begin their first year learning the basics of plant structure, the anatomy of flowers and plants. Every year they add to it, and as they get older, students have the option to run the flower shop on campus.
They take precautions, determine prices, inventory levels and how to make a profit.
Students exit the program and can go straight into a flower shop and start working. This year the students said it was another benefit.
“For a few moments, even if it’s just an hour or two, you take your mind off the pandemic and everything that’s going on and sit down and do something, and it doesn’t have to be perfect. It has to be pretty, but not perfect, ”said the student Hanna Medina.
