Texas Teacher Faith Simon Recognized As Educators Are Honored During ‘Teacher Appreciation Week’ – CBS Dallas / Fort Worth

NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) – Teachers have been forced to get creative and have faced numerous challenges over the past year due to the pandemic.

As we continue to celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week, we recognize local teachers who go above and beyond for their students like Faith Simon, who teaches biology at Polytechnic High School in the Fort Worth Independent School District.

Simon is a member of Teach for America DFW, which identifies top teachers across the country and then takes them to underserved, low-income schools in hopes of improving student lives.

Despite the challenges of the pandemic, she is more passionate about teaching than ever.

“It made me want to stay even more,” says Simon.

“I feel like I always knew there were problems with the public school system in America, and this year a lot of people opened their eyes to them.”

Passionate about making and working for improvement, she looks forward to staying and being effective for her school and students.

Simon says one of the best things parents and students can do to make a teacher feel valued is to keep lines of communication open and to share with their teacher when they are enjoying or out of a particular lesson Lesson learned.

“I think it’s always so nice to get a phone call, email, or message from a student or parent,” says Simon.

These words of encouragement, she says, validate her work and encourage her to move on.

To show gratitude after an unprecedented school year, North Texans are invited to participate in Teach For America’s Three Cheers For Teachers initiative by donating to the new Teacher Care Fund. The fund was set up to support local teachers who always give everything for DFW students.
