The Best and Worst U.S. Cities to Be a New Mom, Ranked

Being a new mom is difficult – but some cities make the experience a little easier. LawnStarter has ranked the 10 best cities in the US for first time mom, with locations in California, New York, Oregon, and Massachusetts making the cut.

To find the best (and worst) places to have a baby, the company compared 174 of the largest U.S. cities based on 43 signs of how friendly they are to new mothers.

This included maternity care such as access to gynecologists and lactation rooms, as well as the quality of the hospitals.

LawnStarter also looked at city childcare facilities, such as: B. access to paediatricians and baby shops.

It took into account the protection of mothers, including strict breastfeeding laws and paid leave for pregnancy and childbirth.

Finally, the crucial issue of affordability such as delivery and childcare costs was examined.

Below are the 10 best and 10 worst US cities to be a new mom, according to the study.

The top 10 cities are split between the east and west coasts. According to LawnStarter, they share the strength of policies that protect jobs and the rights of mothers of mothers.

According to LawnStarter, Detroit was ranked the worst of the 174 cities due to poor childcare and the domestic and external environment. In the socio-economic category, it came last and took last place in terms of legal protection.

Cities in the middle of the United States tended to top the list. For example, no cities in Colorado, Minnesota, Missouri, or Texas appeared in the top 10 or worst 10 lists.

LawnStarter also offered rankings for factors such as the cities with the most gynecologists or the highest quality public hospitals.

Salinas, California has the highest number of gynecologists per 100,000 population, while Louisville, Kentucky has the lowest number. Irvine, California has the highest quality public hospitals while two cities – Joliet, Illinois and Huntington Beach, California – have the lowest quality.

Babysitting is expensive, but some cities are cheaper than others. The lowest hourly babysitting rate is found in three locations: Augusta, Georgia, El Paso, and Amarillo, Texas. Four California cities – San Francisco, Sunnyvale, San Jose, and Oakland – have the most expensive babysitting rates.

Murfreesboro and Nashville, both in Tennessee, were the cities with the highest number of pediatricians per 100,000 residents. Five Texas cities with the lowest number: Fort Worth, Arlington, Frisco, Plano, and Dallas.

Sioux Falls, South Dakota has the highest number of childcare providers per 100,000 residents, while Milwaukee, Wisconsin has the fewest.
